ISSB Adoption in Nigeria: What Needs to Be Done and Who Does What

Global capital is increasingly allocated with considerations for businesses’ ESG integration and disclosure practices.

Launched in June 2023, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is designed as a baseline for sustainability-related financial disclosures with emphasis on providing investors with reliable and comparable data that support effective decision-making.

Adopting these standards is not merely a compliance exercise. It is a strategic imperative for competitiveness, investment attraction, and resilience against transition risks. Effective adoption, however, requires coordinated action. Sustainability professionals, regulators, finance professionals, governance institutions, and businesses must each understand and execute their roles.

This webinar is designed to move conversations beyond creating awareness to eliciting action and implementation strategies for businesses, regulators, and stakeholders to effectively integrate ISSB standards into their operations and decision-making processes.

Objectives:

This webinar is designed to equip key stakeholders to:

  • Clarify the strategic necessity and economic implications of ISSB adoption for Nigeria.
  • Identify tactical actions for solving the top three systemic
barriers: data, capacity, and effective governance.
  • Identify collaborative next steps among key stakeholder groups (sustainability professionals, accountants and financial report preparers, regulators, risk managers, compliance managers, and
    business executives)
Learning Outcome: By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  • Have a shared understanding of Nigeria’s ISSB adoption pathway and alignment with global standards.
  • Gain practical insights on role alignment among key stakeholders in Nigeria’s ISSB adoption.
  • Master a foundation for an inter-agency working group and public communiqué to guide coordinated national adoption efforts.
  • Participants will also earn 3 CPE credit hours, applicable toward maintaining professional certifications and licenses.
